So...after reading a bunch of these threads it seems to me that everyone is having core shutdowns and overheating problems with their macbook airs. I just want to know, is there anyone who actually has had no problems with their air and are completely satisfied with the product?

Yeah, loads of people do (including myself) - it's the nature of internet message boards that people are far more likely to post if they have a problem than if they don't.

I have the 1.6ghz not for very long I must say, I use Aperture amongst other applications, have watched you tube and apple trailers have and never experienced core shutdown.

One needs to practice some common sense, if you block the air vents yes it will get hot! will it shut down when it gets to hot yes! thats what its designed to do, I have watched HD content and it plays just fine using vlc or quicktime.

In all honesty I don't know what people expect from this machine it does everything I could ever want and about 95% of what most other people would need at home and in most cases work to would need.

Played warcraft 3 over the weekend, max'd out all the settings and it played without a glitch, did it get hot yes, did it shut down no, all the vents were clear the fan spun up to 5100rpm and no problems.

Used it in bed and blocked the vents you can still brows the net, send email and use word. and it won't get hot will run at 50 degrees C

If you want to edit full feature lenght Hd video using pro apps. Its not going to hapen, Thats why Apple make pro products.

Just enjoy your machines, stop looking for faults. I compared mine to my MacBookpro 2.2ghz with 4gb ram and a 320gb hard drive and in all honesty could probably sell it, this little air could do everything I threw at it!

I've had a 1.6 HDD model bought a couple months after launch, with no issues to report. Gets hot like every other MBA, but I've yet to experience a core shutdown. If I can shove a decent sized SSD in this down the line, I'll be keeping it for a few revisions yet...

1.6 SSD that hasn't skipped a beat since i got it on launch day, as others have stated if i can still get SSD's in the format required for it, it will serve me well for quite sometime hopefully.

Now that i have netshare, the iphone and air make great travel companions

I have a first-day 1.8/SSD.

No core shutdowns, no dead pixels, no touchpad/button issues, no problems at all.

I use my MBA constantly -- it's replaced pen+paper for meeting notes (using XMIND), for organizing my life (Things/iCal), communication (Adium), office work (iLife or Office 2008 when needed), and light design work (Vector Designer, Pixelmator, Rapid Weaver, Oxygen). The MBA travels in a Waterfield sleeve.

I would buy mine again without hesitation.

Mine works great and has been quite reliable. I can't think of a single issue I've had with it. It doesn't even run all that warm (certainly much cooler on my lap than my old MBP).

I was concerned about all the crap I was reading, but nothing has ever been a problem with the MBA. Love it. Just fast enough to do the work I need it to do (Dreamweaver, flash, illustrator, indesign), and I haven't used my MBP since I got this -- kept the MBP in case MBA was slow or otherwise not good enough. As far as I'm concerned, MBP no longer needed for what I do. Awesome machine, a Joy to use the MBA.

Key selling factor: weight. I travel a lot, and am traveling MUCH lighter now and very pleased with it.

Another 100% satisfied user here- use mine for work and a fair amount of Aperture/Photoshop. Work on the latter two programs only limited by the screen size. I've had mine since early march (1.6 HDD) and it is, bar none, the best traveling machine I have ever owned -- I never hesitate to bring it along.

Never had a core shutdown and it only gets hot when I block the vents.

Mine works good. No dead pixels or anything. I have had a core shutdown but that was only when I unknowningly (someone was using my air) had a ton of programs open and hiding. Drive is quiet. It does get a little hot from time to time. Other than that its been wonderful.

Love it. The screen is gorgeous. The keyboard is a pleasure. The weight is easy and unintimidating. I love it's simple design and I find I'm keeping much less cluttered than I used to be. No core shutdowns. Nothing like that. I keep an eye on it like any good parent and she rewards me by running like she's supposed to. I have a friend that never lets up, waiting to say 'I told you so', but every time I see him I have to tell him I'm pleased with my purchase. Not only pleased, but I still look at it and get that warm feeling of happiness that so few material possession bring. (Man, I sound creepy)

After 3 hours of solid encoding using Handbrake (maxing both cores) without even a hiccup i have to disagree.

Mine's currently at 2500rpm with Safari, Mail, iPhoto, Adium and iPhoto open. Have to say mine is quiet the majority of the time - the fans only really ramp up when running flash/video apps, or when I've blocked the vents (i.e. when its lying on my duvet for example). So yes, quiet the majority of the time...

It does more or less work for sure, but given the comments it's truly a case of 'if you don't know better...'

I bought a 1.8SSD Air in Feb, and another in June with a view to a) see if a later version suffers from the same issues in my usage mode and b) a spare in case the main unit has to be Applecare'd yet again.

As the user of Sony SZ's + TZ's and a former user of the Lenovo X300 and the Toshiba R500 (and currently eyeing a Voodoo Envy 133 with a Sony Z11 on preorder), I have certain expectations when using an ultraportable. These do include stability (which undoubtedly Vista contributes positively to when compared with a Leopard machine, but still), the ability to use a machine without it turning into a stuttery vacuum cleaner in Mediterranean temperatures, and a quoted battery life that's more or less accurate especially if it has no replaceable battery (and takes 10 hours to charge from flat given the low runtime of the machine) among others.

By the time I got rid of the spare, both had been to Applecare a total of at least 5-6 times - and both did in fact suffer from the same issues of thermal problems in reasonable summer heat, stability problems in basic messaging using Entourage, and wireless connectivity issues among many others.

I came to the conclusion that only people who have their brains in their eyes or an Applezombie who does nothing of any consequence could actually consider this pile of **** usable. These days my original Air skulks in the corner to be taken out when I need something to technologically pose with. Once I find a replacement for that duty - maybe the Voodoo will be it - it is sooooo out of here.

Very satisfied 1.8/80 owner here. I never hear my fans, no core shutdowns, and a terrific Geekbench of 2485! I am using Coolbook and do NOT have YouTube stutter and my temps stay under 63C.

The only time my fans go over 2600 or so is if I watch videos, at least for my normal stuff (Office, Firefox, mail, iCal, etc). Full screen videos off Youtube will run the fans up, but I gather that is normal. Certainly it (and my MBP) are the quietest laptops I have ever owned (and, of the two, my MBA is a lot less warm to the touch under normal load).

As for Sesshi, I'm sorry your machines haven't worked out for you. I use mine in 80 degree weather without a hitch and I've not experienced a single failure or hiccup of any sort (rather unlike my shiny new HP machine running Vista: that crashes Windows Explorer several times a day for unclear reasons).
