I just returned my Samsung notebook and got a Satellite C675. I was trying to increase and decrease the volume by pressing the FN key and the number 3 and 4 to adjust the volume but it doesn't do anything. Also this laptop emanates an unpleasant toxic-like odor. I was using a Samsung laptop $380 before returning it to try this one. Also aren't the keys kind of hard to press on this laptop? I heard that if you buy the different computer parts yourselves and then call a computer technician they can do it for about $10 in Korea. Is that the case in the US as well?

First of all you can't buy all the parts to build a laptop. You can build a desktop but not a laptop. And secondly it would cost you more than it's worth if you can't do it yourself.

As for the volume keys, check the user guide and if it looks like you're doing everything right, bring/send it back for a refund or exchange.

Also check the Windows volume control in the lower right corner. You should see a small speaker icon. Click on it and see if you can turn the volume up or down with the slider.

Also try pressing the F3 and F4 keys. Most laptops used the function button to let you access the function keys, and the top row of keys is by default the multimedia keys.
