I'm thinking about picking one up from Amazon at $99 unlocked.

The resolution isn't the best, but it's still decent and the 5 inch screen attracts me. Also, the camera has good reviews for a budget phone. Don't plan on using it as my daily device, but mainly to mess around with, test apps I create, and to stay updated on WP's progress.

I already have the Lumia 520 that I got for $40 awhile back, but after several updates, it became a bit sluggish, and I can't deal with any device that's a 4 inch screen any longer, especially with horrible resolution.

So anyone have any experience with this phone?

I picked one up about a month and a half ago. Long story short, I really liked it. It is leaps and bounds better than the 520 and 635 in just about every department. The screen is very decent, it's nice and speedy, and as you mentioned the camera is decent and in my own testing is A LOT better than 520 / 635. I ended up selling my 640, as I already have a Lumia 1520, but that's only because I already had the 1520.

Highly recommend the 640. You'll love it and it'll be a HUGE upgrade from the 520.

Thanks, just the answer I was hoping for. Didn't want to waste money to experience something too similar to the 520.

By any chance, did you use sim card adapters for it. I'll be using a nano to micro sim adapter for the days I take it out. If so, did it fit and read correctly?

I think you'll love the device! I didn't use any SIM adapters for it, but I've used adapters from SAdapter with other phones and I've been pleased with them.

i think bestbuy had on sale for $69 and microsoft store has it for same price. although u have to obtain at&t unlock code for free (2 days) or from ebay (couple of bucks)

I have it. I use it as a backup to my ip6+. I use it like you, see updates, check out live tiles, etc. For what I need to do during the day, I cannot function with it. I tried, got me frustrated. The ip6+ works better for me.
I have the TMo version unlocked. It's acceptable performance/function for $99. Definitely no crapware compared to an android device at the same price.

You might want to check Microsoft's Web site. I think they go for US$79.

Of course, that will only help you if you are in the United States.
