I just found that the new iPad is a downgrade from my Air 2 because it lacks a fully laminated display.

Does anyone know now when the 10.5 iPad will be released coz isn't the September event exclusively iPhone ? Because if it isn't releasing this year I might as well sell off my Air 2 and get the iPad Pro which I wants to avoid as the Pro products seem to be due an update

Short answer, no. It's all speculation at this point. It did downgrade the display but it upgraded the chip set. If you decide to hold out for the 10.5, good luck and god speed!

Last unverified "rumor" I saw said Late April - Early May. How accurate that proves to be is anyone's guess. I don't foresee it before later in year myself however.

Im pretty much in the same boat.. My Air 2 is "alright" but I have wanted the 12.9" since it was announced. I literally said, I am going to buy that the day Generation 2 releases.. welp here I am still waiting for Gen 2 :( maybe I should have bought iPad Pro 1 a year ago.

No one here will have an approximation when the 10.5 inch iPad will launch, because we don't even know if there's a 10.5 inch iPad that exists to begin with.

But if you want to base opinions off rumors, then it's rumored that the 10.5 inch iPad is delayed/pushed back due to OLED part suppliers.

MacRumors seems to believe that we won't see any revamped iPads until September 2017.

I just caved and bought the pro 9.7 today. This roller coaster ride of rumors has finally decided I had enough and kicked me to the curb.

Tim Cook knows. Here it's an unverified rumor. I would like to update from an iPad 3 but I'm still holding out. Maybe WWDC is the most likely with an iOS update.

If Apple treats the iPad like the Mac lineup, it will be sometime between 2019 and 2020 before the next update. You can be darn sure that there will be lots of new watch bands and emojis though.
