Speaking specifically about the black pins on the darker bands. I'm wondering if it's just polished stainless steel, or actual DLC coating (which would make the pin much more likely to scratch other metals like the palm rest of my Mac). I've asked elsewhere but never got a definitive reply. Would any of you guys happen to know? Thanks!

I’m not sure anyone has a definitive answer outside of Apple. I will say that, on my sport bands that have a black pin, the pin looks identical in color to my SBSS watch and the finish is very durable. I don’t see signs of wear on either of my sport bands that have a black pin. I haven’t had any instances of the pin scratching other surfaces, but that could just be luck.

So, if I had to bet, I would say it is the same DLC coating that goes on the watches. But, only Apple could say for sure.

So I contacted Apple Support and the guy had to do a lot of research to find an answer. Finally he got back to me saying "It is the same stainless steel pin and DLC coating, but the finish is a little bit more matte." He said he couldn't find any documentation to send me to prove it but that is the answer he got from other people on the team. So there ya go, for anyone that finds this thread later looking for an answer!

By the way, because it is DLC, it would scratch other things like metal much easier. This means it's important to be very careful around something like a MacBook's palm rest if you are using it.
