Hi everyone,

Recently I bought a MP 5.1. I want to replace the stock videocard with a metal-compatible one. Due to the mining frenzy, prices of videocards have more than doubled, taking out most of the fun of it. I just stumbled across this card. Does anyone know if it’s compatible with my MP and Mojave/Catalina?

Thanks!

MacOS supports AMD chips that are Baffin-class or newer (Polaris, Ellesmere, etc.). MacOS does not support Lexa-class AMD GPU chips. The Amazon page you linked to includes the following screencap:
61LbuOIH%2BkL._AC_SX679_.jpg

You'll note that the GPU is shown as "Lexa". Assuming this screencap accurately reflects the item being sold, this GPU will not work with MacOS.

(There are some RX550s that will work with MacOS. All chip manufacturers will "downgrade" chips that don't quite meet specs - for example, Intel might make a batch of 3.2 GHz Xeons, but some of them won't work at 3.2 GHz - but if those will work at 2.8 GHz, Intel will just mark them as 2.8 and sell them that way. AMD does the same with their GPUs - sometimes a Baffin chip won't quite meet spec, so they'll sell it on a lower-priced GPU. There are known to be some RX550s containing "downgraded" Baffin chips that will work with MacOS, but there's no way to know what you've got until you plug it in and see how it identifies itself.)

NVIDIA GTX 680 Pro Mac Edition should work. I had it in my 5,1 Mojave until 1 year ago.

I have mint condition and boxed one for sale - not sure if i'm allowed to mention it here - £150 plus postage from UK ! :)

Message me if you're interested.
