Anyone know of good adBlocker for iOS 14 for the iPad?

A good adBlocker that blocks ads like pop up ads and banner ads. And also video ads.

Some web sites these days have video ads.

Microsoft Edge Browser with strict privacy settings seem to block lot of advts. you can try that as well.

I use Wipr now and it works just as good as adguard without any complicated setup.

1blocker is also really good but tends to be more aggressive and breaks more websites, not that it's many, and provides you with controls to customize blocking on a per-site basis. I just read that 1blocker just released their 4.0 update with a built in proxy server in their app so it can block trackers in all apps on-device and not through any external DNS server to do the filtering.

Edit: fixed an error in the proxy server description.

edge browser for iOSX
edge blocks more ads that safari running the same ad blocking software.
and others independent browsers like vivaldi etc are probably better
AdBlocker is good, and free.

I use Wipr. It’s straightforward, very easy to use and effective. It doesn’t block YouTube ads (does any?).

AdGuard blocks yt ads in safari not on the yt app though. Don’t think any work with the yt app.

AdGuard is excellent especially if you also use their encrypted DNS server which blocks ads in all apps across iOS.

I also use Purify just because it's the first ad blocker I installed on iOS when they were new.

I use 1Blocker, and have for quite awhile. It works great. But they might need to send their proxy server back to the drawing board as it is EATING my battery alive. My battery life has been close to cut in half since I enabled it. Disabled it and my battery life went back to normal. It's a shame too because it's a nice feature. Still, won't stop me from recommending 1Blocker... just might want to keep the proxy part turned off until they work that out.

I use the DNS based blocking of my Ubiquiti Amplifi Mesh, works really well and of course for all devices on the network

I had a feeling there would be a battery hit with the proxy server since it needs to process all internet traffic.

I haven't tried it, sticking with Wipr for now.

There are 2 forms of adblockers:

1)domain blocker, it stops the ad from displaying on the page AKA a blank area in its place. These can work in different parts on your computer network

2) Cosmetic blockers, these have to be implemented in the browser as plug-ins. They rebuild the webpage as if there were no ads in the first place. These can block even in video ads.

Cosmetic blockers are the better ones but they only work as an add-on in the browser. Due to the restrictive nature of iOS Apple will not allow plugins so they do not exist except for Brave Browser which has this as a built in feature of the browser.

On Android and other desktop OS look for uBlock Origin, the best adblocker. Again due to restrictions of Apple its not available for Safari but you can use Adblock for Safari (Free) or 1Blockr.

I suggest you look into installing a Pihole ($30 investment or so in Raspberry Pi), a domain blocker that will block all ads on everything that connected to your Wifi/home network including TVs and game consoles. Similarly you can pay a subscription to use AdGuard DNS or NextDNS which does the same thing but by paying them a monthly subscription and giving you a DNS number that you use on your router or any device you have giving you similar results.

EDIT: Looks like there is a free AdBlocking option from Adguard by using their DNS numbers, no monthly fees using the following DNS numbers on your router :
94.140.14.14
94.140.15.15

But you have no option on what to block or not, meanwhile NextDNS is paid and you can use pick and choose what to block as you wish like Facebook or anything else.

Highly recommend Pi-hole + unbound also. If you want additional layer, I recommend Sophos XG for security which also helps with advertisement traffic.

I also use Adblock plus as it helps with removing blank spaces (Ad’s removed by Pi-hole) on website and adjusts the formatting.

Lockdown App is very good.

Is there some thing you can do with router to block ads?

I read some people do some thing with router to block ads it is free and you don’t have to download software or browsers to block it.

I hear the Firefox Focus browser and DuckDuckgo browser has as ad blocker built into it.

Buy a Raspberry Pi, install AdGuard Home on it, set it as your DNS server.

I recommend AdGuard Home over Pi Hole because it's more feature complete out the box and, imo, has a superior UI. Plus if you install it as a snap, upgrades are automatic.

if you read my post all you have to do with router is use AdGuard DNS numbers.

FireFox Focus and DDG do not block ads, they block trackers. Brave browser has built in adblocker.
