Does anyone know what resolution the iPad Pro 11 inch in particular uses when viewing say a 4K video that is 16:9

i.e how many pixels are being utilized from the iPad since we are missing out on some pixels because it’s not fit for the iPads screen ratio.. so for example if I watch a 1440p video.. how many “black” pixels are there on my screen I.e. dead space letterbox

thanks so much !

Going by the resolutions involved: The iPad has horizontal (landscape) resolution of 2,388 that will be fully taken up by a landscape video. Using a 16:9 aspect that gives a height of about 1,343 pixels. That comes to a total resolution of just over 3.2M pixels out of the iPad's 3.98M total resolution (about 80% of the screen being used). A 4K video is 3840x2160 (8.3M pixels per frame) for reference. That means about 1.6x1.6=2.56 video pixels being displayed by one iPad display pixel. Exactly how the software interpolates isn't something I can say, but those are the raw numbers.

More like 1440p.
1440p is 2k though actually 2.5k -- cause it's 2560x1440 for 16:9 if I'm not mistaken. Essentially the ipad pro 11 inch is a 1440p screen resolution but fitted into the unique aspect ratio of the ipad 11.

thank you this is exactly what I was looking for.

so the answer is 2388x1343 vs 2560x1440 which is pretty much perfect considering the small size of the ipad.. Apple really outdid themselves again. Amazing. What a great ipad. I love it. The aspect ratio is clearly chosen with a lot of thought put in.

It's basically the perfect amount of pixels to have not only retina quality but it gives a unique aspect ratio which is great for say having "extra space" when you have two apps open in split screen as the tiny bit of extra wideness as opposed to the 12.9 inch ipads 4:3 aspect gives an "illusion" of some more space than there really is in landscape (The 12.9 inch ipad doesn't need the unique aspect ratio cause the screen itself is already larger). Not only that but it allows the 11 inch ipad to practically (nearly) be 1:1 perfect with 2560x1440 videos which is basically identical to the retina quality that apple wants in their ipads.

Perfect!
