The 1TB is a Caviar Black and the 640GB is a Caviar Blue.

Can anyone confirm that Apple either will or will not install the same Caviar Black drive in a 2.93 iMac purchased with the 1TB drive option as the preconfigured 3.06 iMacs??

Yes - if it's a 1TB HDD it's a WD CB.
