Just wondering if anyone here runs an AWU (with LTE) but has an Android as their main device (and an iPhone simply to manage the AWU etc)?

Or does that just not work?

Well, you can use an AW without an iPhone... if you set it up under a Family Plan.

I attempted to do this... but too many features were missing and some apps require an iPhone to function, decided it was best to continue using the Galaxy Watch. But I'm curious... what are you hoping to achieve with the setup you are asking about?

I believe @aggie99 have tried this before...

Yeah can't be bothered with the Family Plan

I have seen this and seems to cover most of the stuff: https://www.androidpolice.com/apple-watch-pair-use-android-tutorial/

Undecided yet what to do

If I get another AWU I wand full functionality of it; not just sub par activity etc!

I like the Samsung Watch 6 Classic; but the wife's just smashed her Pixel watch and she's had the Watch 6 for a few days and really likes it...

It feels a great watch overall; but, IMO, it's not as slick as the AWU

I'm missing the AWU more than the iPhone; just undecided whether to get another 15PM or stick with a cheap SE iPhone and use the AWU that way, if that makes sense (ie keep the Fold as my main device and the SE as a redundant device used to set up the AWU)

In a month Samsung is gonna announce new watch, including a Galaxy Watch Ultra from what leaked it seems to be very premium too!

I'm using an AWU and S24 Ultra currently. The watch is paired to my iPhone 15PM that I'm keeping to play with the iOS 18 beta. I did enable the esim in the watch before transferring my phone esim to the galaxy. The watch worked for calls and most notifications, but not messages. I've since removed the mobile plan from my watch as messages was the main thing I wanted when at work, where I can't have my phone on me.

Waiting for the galaxy watch 7 to see what's offered there. I'm still undecided about staying with Android or going back to my iPhone too (at the moment the galaxy is the better phone, and I've been iPhone from the 3G). I'll see how things go, and maybe wait 6-12 months and see how I feel about which phone I want to stick with. I've had the galaxy for 7 weeks so far, no issues so far that have made me want to go back to my iPhone.

From a looks standpoint… I prefer the Galaxy Watch, primarily for the reason it looks like a traditional watch. But what had me interested in the AWU was the use of iMessage on-the-go instead of having the cellular iPad (was planning on canceling this line).

And when it all comes down to it… it’s function over form, functional the Apple Watch better because it has the ability to display more content on screen. That’s pretty much the just of it. Both watches do well when it comes to health fitness features.

But I could no longer use the AWU because of the missing features and I don’t care to have 3 lines open on my cellular plan… I did it before years ago (iPad, AW and iPhone) and thought that was extra. So far, Google and Samsung is doing pretty good in their collaboration.

What I like about the Galaxy Watch is the crazy amount of watch faces that can be added, access to Google Assistant (Gemini is on the way)… able to sideload apps. And Google is really trying to add value to WearOS with their suite of apps.

Yeah I've given up on the idea and gone back to an AWU 😂

I'm not getting on with the Watch 6 Classic as well as I'd liked; love Android phones, the watches not so much

So, what have you decided on... SE iPhone or iPhone 15PM?

And I was an Apple Watch user since the 1st generation (gave up on when I moved on to Android, think it was 4th or 5th generation), so I understand the pull it has... but what are your issues with the Watch 6 Classic?

The guy who bought my 15PM can't get on with it so having that back. And bought an AWU2 in Amazon which lands tomorrow with the phone.

The Watch 6 Classic is a lovely design. But I prefer the look/feel of the AWU but also some of the functionality. More so, which didn't think would be an issue, the LTE capabilities...

But currently I'm too invested in the Apple ecosystem and as much as the Pixel Fold is an amazing device (and does the job of my previous iPad too) that'll remain my business device and my evening / weekends device for reading etc...

I also much prefer the apps on the AWU compared to the Watch 6 Classic. I don't get any banking updates on that whereas the AWU covered them all, as an example

I use garmin fenix. Syncs perfectly with both android and iOS and gives me enough functionality from a smartwatch standpoint which is effectively call and text notifications. Best part about it is that I can wear a garmin heart rate monitor strap on my chest when I’m out and about and rock my mechanical watches which I’m not willing to give up. Definitely a specific use case but one that works well if you’re in my shoes.

The garmin health tracking is top notch imo.

I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what it was with the watch 6 classic, but the interaction between watch and phone didn’t seem as good between the s24 ultra and watch 6 as my 15 pm and AWU2.

At times, the Samsung watch wasn’t as responsive in terms of receiving notifications

I’m probably in the minority on this aspect but I don’t like the rotating bezel either.

I quite liked the bezel; but just felt the watch overall wasn't anywhere near as good as the AWU (probably obvious really seeing as the AWU is nigh on x3 the price)

But I just prefer the apps on the AWU in comparison and I'm too tied into the Apple ecosystem now to be without it...

My Fold works perfect for my business mobile and my reading device in the evenings; but Apple has to be my main driver currently
