im about to buy a top of the line 2011 imac with i7 3.4ghz, 1tb + ssd and 2gb graphics but when i was about to put it in to my cart i notice that the estimate delivery date will take 4-6 weeks....my question is if anyone here purchased it already and and get an email about delivery date and sooner than what the estimated date is pls let me know coz thats the only reason right now why i haven't purchased it.

i know people might say that if i need a computer now then buy it now or wait but im willing to its just that ill wait when they drop the delivery date coz i could use the money for something important just in case instead of not having money and not having a computer.

anyways, im looking forward to hear from anyone who placed an order with ssd in it. thanks in advance

Here's the relevant thread:

Basic story is that estimated shipping date for North American orders was June 15 for orders placed on Tuesday.

holly ******!!! that long? everything seems to be normal until you add the ssd. whats the reason why it'll take that long to add ssd in it. i think apple should've been ready for this and have it in stock, coz they know that imac is not very upgradable but memory so they know that people will pretty much go full blast so that it'll last long.

but anyway, thanks for the link.

I ordered my 27" HDD+SSD on the phone and asked the apple employe about the long delivery time. He told what we are waiting for so long are not the SSDs themself to arrive but some new controllers for them. The benefit of waiting for those will be that the new generation iMac SSDs will be faster than the previous generation. He went on explaining that apple decided to release the new iMacs ahead of the arrival of the new controllers so only a few customers (those ordering SSDs) have to wait longer. I can't garantee that the explaination he offered me is correct. But this is what he told me.

One thing on the bright side though: I asked him about the "Back to school" promotion and those free iPodtouchs that were given away last year because some people on this forum are expecting this promotion to start again this year in late may. Well, he couldn't comment on when this promo is going to start this year. But he told me if the promo starts before my iMac gets delivered i should give him a call and he'll see what he can do. Of course thats not a promise but he really sounded optimistic about it.

Keep in mind this is just what a low level apple salesmen told me. But i put my confidence in it.
