My XS Max is almost full, about 10GB of 512GB free, I download a lot of TV Shows from iTunes, I really hate the idea of the 2021 iPhone being portless, like no lightning or USB-C port, and have to redownload over 500GB worth of TV Shows. So I read MacRumors.com page on the 2021 iPhone, and it said 1 may have no port, but could have a smart connector to allow for syncing/data transfer, does anyone think Apple would take the port out, but still have some sorta smart connector for data syncing, I also have videos I bought from Vimeo(Transformers G1 series) that Idk how I'd get on a new 6.7 Inch iPhone. I've kinda got myself worrying over this, would just be a pain in the butt to have to redownload 500+GBs of TV Shows, plus I backup some files(excel, word, etc...) on my iPhone.

Also this is assuming they do have a 1TB option, Jon Prosser said on his YouTube page the other day that we may be really getting 1TB iPhones in 2021.

I don’t see portless happening this or next year but looking at my own usage in the last few years I have barely synced anymore.

It will be interesting to see how Apple solves wired CarPlay on a portless iPhone. Would need a wireless adapter or later MagSafe support data transfer. I suspect the later would be used.

I think we will certainly get a portless phone this year; the leaks were on point last year and they've been around since late 2019 that we will be getting a portless phone in 2021. However, the leaks have always been consistent in saying its one, maybe two models. AKA the pro max, and perhaps the pro. None of them have said all 4 models will be portless which is what a lot of people on macrumours and reddit keep on repeating.

A smart connector seems likely. It was in fact in some early CAD models for the 12 series; just like how early CAD models for the 11 pro had LIDAR.

I also have a lot of video and music content stored on my 256GB 12 mini, transferred through iTunes from my MacBook. I’ve also transferred various document files wirelessly using AirDrop - wondering if AirDrop would work with big media files as well... 🤔

I think they would go with something like a smart connector. I don’t think we’re going to see a completely portless phone.

I’m using a Car2Play adapter and it works brilliantly. Apart from the cost, CarPlay shouldn’t be too much of an issue when moving to a port less phone.
(I know that unfortunately this adapter won’t work with all headunits / cars)

Serious question, but do you need all of that media on your phone all of the time?

Years ago, yes, I mean we used to all have massive iPods because of this, but with streaming and cheap, fast, cellular coverage (not available in all countries I know) do you need to have all of the media on your phone?

Annnnddddd..... technically WiFi 6 could transfer 500GB in about 6mins, so if you did need all that media, just start the transfer, go to bed and wake up to a fully sync’d phone

I haven't read about WiFi 6, not sure if Spectrum will carry it or does, is it a thing yet? I have horrible internet speeds for some unknown reason, I pay for 100mbps download, about $80 a month, yet I'm getting about 20mbps over WiFi, a bit more over ethernet, I want FiOS, but my town refuses to let it in, and AT&T U-Verse isn't in NY at all. Our Governor Andrew Cuomo said he was going after the big named ISPs(Spectrum, Verizon, & Comcast I think, it's available in NYC, I live in Albany NY area).

As for why I have so much on my iPhone, I just like having it there, I know we have 4G, and now 5G, though ATT 5G isn't in my area yet, well the highest one, but, I like having it downloaded so I don't have to waste data if I want to watch something while at the Doctors or in Car, just pop my AirPods in, & I'm good to go. But I get why many/most people dont/wont ever use 1TB on their iPhone or Phone.

All good! I used to always pick the highest capacity phones so I could do the same, but as Spotify, Netflix, etc came in, I have been able to get away with a 128GB iPhone for the last few cycles.

Wifi 6 is the current (previous?) standard that most recent home wifi solutions will support. The 6 min transfer would require a lot of perfect conditions, but for me, even if the transfer from my computer (so not going over internet links, just inside my house), took overnight to happen for the first sync, it wouldn’t worry me too much!
