If so, do you never feel the need for a lighter cover for reading, etc.? Also, how do you secure the Apple Pencil? Do you feel safe depending on the magnet alone?

I take my iPad off of the Magic Keyboard to read in portrait mode if it’s a PDF or something that works better in that orientation (my preference, at least). As far as the Apple Pencil, I’ve never had any issues with losing it somewhere that I wasn’t expecting it to be. I tossed my 11” in my backpack for many work trips and only found the pencil in the bottom of it a handful of times. Additionally, I usually hand carry it onto the plane and put it in the seat pocket when I’m not using it and have never had the pencil fall off. Now I’m sure you’ll also get people who say they lose it all the time because their life is different than mine, but after the first week of owning it, I can’t say I was ever worried about losing it again.

I don’t. I use both the MK and the Apple Smart folio for in hand use of my 2018 and a replacement 2021 iPad Pro 12.9”. Due to their magnetic mounting system it is easy to switch between the two. I just don’t feel comfortable holding a ”naked iPad Pro 12.9”. But more importantly, I like the screen protection that Apple’s Smart Folio affords me.

I had a black one on my 2018 iPad Pro, but yesterday I popped for a deep blue one for my newly acquired silver 2021 iPad Pro. Yes, yes there is not much drop protection as the open sides do not give protection like some of the third party fully encased, third party folios. But I don’t like the bulk.

Today, I discovered my 2021 iPad Pro 12.9” seems to work fine with my 2020 MK. If it didn’t I think I would be looking harder at the Logitech Combo keyboard folio. It servers as both an MK replacement, and a Smart folio replacement. A two in one solution, that does offer better protection around the side of the iPP.

Probably more than anyone really wants to know. But that is my experience and preference so far. Good hunting everyone for iPad accesories!

I’ve ordered that same deep blue cover.

I use my Magic Keyboard as the only cover most of the time. But often I remove the iPad Pro from it and use no cover, when I want to carry it around since the Magic Keyboard adds so much weight. I do that to use it in bed at night. In the BeforeTimes, I would carry the iPad around at work in its Magic Keyboard case so I could type to take notes in meetings.

For the Pencil, I never put it on top of the iPad except when charging it. At all other times I just leave it at my desk.

Magic keyboard has been my only cover since it came out. When not using the keyboard, just grab the iPad off the keyboard and use. Works for me.

I mostly use it with no cover but when I do use a cover it is the magic keyboard.

I bought a cheap $20 smart cover thinking I would use it at times as a different option to the magic keyboard. Literally have used it a handful of times. Like many said above, rather just rip the iPad off and use it with no case then go find and change into the smart cover. All depends on your situation though but generally don’t think you need one.

Magic Keyboard only. Feel completely safe that the magnets will remain secure while attached. If I want to use the iPad in portrait orientation, taking the iPad off the Magic Keyboard and using it in my hands feels perfectly natural.

No Apple Pencil. Not an artist and have zero interest in drawing.
