just curious, because the second mac mini I got had wrinkled seal and some small scratches on cover film. Then when I took off ram cover I noticed finger print on fan plastic...(I bought from BHPhoto but I guess they got directly from apple)

No, Apple doesn't sell refurbished products as new. What BHPhoto does is another matter.

  • Apple Certified Refurbished Products are only available from the Apple Refurb Store and are not sold by any 3rd party or local Apple stores
  • Educational discounts do not apply to refurb products.
  • Refurb products come with the same warranty as new products, and qualify for AppleCare
  • Refurb products have a changed serial number that identifies them as refurbished
  • Refurb products come with whatever OS version and software they originally shipped with as new
  • Refurb products come with the same items in the box as new products, only the box is a plain one, not the new box.
  • A refurb product could have some cosmetic signs of prior use, but rarely do
  • A refurb Mac may have some cycles on the battery, but not a significant enough amount to affect usable life
  • The refurb store inventory changes frequently, sometimes several times a day, and doesn't have any direct relation to upcoming product releases. What's available in the refurb store is determined by what has been returned to Apple.
  • If you're looking for a particular item, refurb.me can alert you when it becomes available.

my guess is you are lying not likely, but possible or BH Photo shrink wrapped it. Was this mini stock or did it have extra ram?

it is possible that BH photo added the extra ram and packaged it as new.

you should check the serial number right away.

Your experience makes me determined not to buy Apple stuff from 3rd parties, even authorized resellers.

Just wondering if BHPhoto is just another one of those dubious "camera" shops in NYC that practices dirty selling tactics?

They are usually pretty reliable, I haven't bought computers from them, but all the camera gear that I bought tends to be reasonably priced and comes quickly.

While I'm sure some resellers are fine, this is why I prefer buying Apple products directly from Apple.

I've heard BHPhoto were selling Canon 5D3 and Nikon D800 with high shutter counts as brand new. Just get it replaced if you feel it's not brand new.

I could be negative about bhphoto, but instead I will say www.jr.com is the only manhattan NYC based store that is truly really good.

What you can do is get some smartware reader and see how many hours are on the hdd. It should have very few. Under 10 hours.

Did you buy an upgraded version better hdd or more ram?

When in NYC, go to the apple stores or order online. A number of camera shops do sell computers and computer parts. Some of those shops have dubious reputations. It's like anything else when you're a new yorker. Trust nobody because half the city is out to scam you and the other half is clueless.

Bleh.. B+H has an excellent reputation, and if you need help, need to return something, etc. it's not difficult to get a real person on the line.

That surprises me. I know they have a return policy with digital cameras that indicates must not have over X shutter count. it's something like a couple hundred frames or less, but you can find it on their site. Their policies are clearly stated on everything. I've had issues with a couple of the others in terms of conditions/descriptions. The only real issues I recall with B+H were trying to get them to stop sending me printed catalogs when I always ordered from the site (the waste of paper makes me angry) and they complained about not being able to verify my address once even though I had ordered from the same address for a couple years.

Search this site for B+H. Plenty of people on here buy stuff from them.

you would be wrong here, I have bought previously from apple the ipad 3g and had exactly the same issue. The item didn't seem to be brand new.

I guess am not alone here:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1007841/

I went to Apple store and got replacing whole unit by a new Mac mini in Apple store yesterday. BUT the new one has the similar problem (same screw stripping and no Tm sensor) out of the box when I tried to update RAM today. Make me feel I should buy a lottery recently.

Even from Apple store you have no proper QC guaranteed.

From shopper experience on the camera forms, B & H is considered probably the best "camera" shops in NYC. They sell all types of electronics and their customer service is rated as tops. But, I agree, by Apple from Apple if possible.

B&H only sells new Apple products as new. That's one reason our return policy says "No Return/Exchange On Computers, Software and Hardware once any of the manufacturer's packaging has been opened."

I cannot ID you or this transaction from the information available here. Feel free to email me and I'll see what there is to see.

We are not, but don't take my word for it. http://www.resellerratings.com/store/B_H_Photo_Video_Pro_Audio says we're 9.78/10 with 6900+ reviews during the past 6 months.

I've heard BHPhoto were selling Canon 5D3 and Nikon D800 with high shutter counts as brand new.

Not only is this entirely untrue I think repeating unbelievable nonsense like this is deplorable and irresponsible rumor-mongering.

I could be negative about bhphoto, but ...
If there's some issue you're dissatisfied about I'd be happy to try to repair it if possible.
