I bought a brand new SSD for my Mac Pro and it shows very little usage on it (hours, not space) from my initial test. Is this normal or did someone sell me a used drive? I assume Apple tests the drives before they ship to retailers, as I purchased it new.

Does Apple test their new SSDs as a QC process or is my drive used?

Well someone had to load the preinstall OS on it.
Or did it come to you as a blank? I'm not sure Apple actually sells totally blank SSDs. It could have been erased again. Especially if it was sold as a part from a purchased Mac Pro.
All Apple SSDs bought 3rd party are either "fell off a truck" or system pulls.
Many FOAT drives left assembly plants in China in somebody's sock. Those have better chance of being new than the pulls. I used the 256 gb drive in my 6,1 until it filled up (couple weeks) then bought a 1TB SSUBX that FOAT.
Despite glorious predictions of a new golden era of upgrades available from Apple, we have gone backwards. Apple PCIE SSDs are NOT available from Apple except as repair parts.
I put the 256 in my 2014 Mini as a 2nd drive to the SATA SSD. Isn't it sad that a Mini has more internal storage options than the "Pro" machine?
