I've had my MBP repaired 4 times now. This is just getting stupid. Does AppleCare stipulate that if the Mac has to be repaired a certain number of times (due to defect, not abuse) you get a new one? I'm really getting sick of something going wrong with my MBP every 5 months. Any replies are appreciated!

I believe it's three repairs, four failures of the same problem. However, I've had Apple refuse to replace some items after the fourth failure, and had them set up a replacement on the first failure (because engineering wanted the product for testing).

Do you mean three repair for different things? Or do all repairs have to be for the same problem?

Conventional wisdom is 3 times for the same issue.

And in my case, they not only had to replace the same part (or fix the same problem) 3x, but they broke other things along w/ the repairs. Even then, they may be reluctant to give u a new one unless you ask for one. And please dun sound like you're desperate, they can smell a poser a mile away.

I am desperate! I'm trying to finish my MA dissertation and can't work on t when my computer keeps breaking down! :)

I know a guy who's had to take his MBP lemon in a grand total of 6 times. It was friggin' ridiculous. I told him the third time around that he should have just asked for a brand new one. (They did eventually give him one.)

no, there isn't any written stipulation like that.

As others have said, there does seem to be a rather flexible rule of thumb that after 3 repairs for the same problem they're apt to replace your computer rather than try to fix it again; however, there are plenty of people who got replacements sooner than that.

If yours has to be repaired again, start complaining and ask if they can't just replace it.
