I bought the AppleCare+ for my iPhone 8 Plus a few months ago, but recently just got the iPhone X and would like if I can transfer my AppleCare+ on the 8 Plus to the X?

Thanks

alright. Thank you for a quick response. Do you think they ask for proof of purchase? i don't think i have the receipt with me. It's tight onto my Account and iPhone 8 Plus.

You shouldn't need a receipt, as they can look on the computer and see whether or not your iPhone 8 plus is covered. They will then look at the date it was activated and then prorate it on the date you call.

There is a situation where you previous AppleCare can be transferred to a new idevce. That is if your AppleCare is bought within 6 months or so (I can’t remember). Anytime past that point will be not transferable. Better ask Apple staff than taking my words.

Apple barely let me transfer AppleCare after just over 30 days, from my launch X to my sim-free X. They preferred to simply refund the prorated amount.

Ironically, you have always been able to transfer prorated AC coverage to any buyer of your device.

Not ironic since it is JUST easy. When buying a new device Apple would have to figure out the days left and implement a system to make Apple Care extend to this custom date. Just so much easier for Apple and FAR LESS confusing to the customer to be related from date of purchase.

I think it makes sense that Apple would encourage the refund $$ on former iPX to be used on AC+ for my newer device and get full 2 years coverage for a few $$ rather than 1 yr 11 months.

If you sell your iPhone 8 the Apple Care transfers with it to the new owner so that you should be able to get a better price for the phone.

The above advice about getting a prorated refund to purchase AppleCare+ on your new device is accurate, so long as you have not filed any claims against that AppleCare+ insurance. If you have, the amount of the refund will be reduced by the amount of the claim.

I believe they also charge a $10 or 10% fee (whichever is less) to cancel if the cancellation is after 30-days..

Apparently YMMV. I've done the cancel/purchase process several times and never been charged any fees.

It's also possible that they will waive the fees if you are, in effect, transferring the coverage (buying for a new device)...

According to Apple site it's $25 or 10%.

You may cancel this Plan at any time for any reason.

(a) If you cancel within thirty (30) days of your Plan’s purchase, or receipt of this Plan, whichever occurs later, you will receive a full refund less the value of any benefits provided to you under the Plan.

(b) If you cancel more than thirty (30) days after your receipt of this Plan, you will receive a pro rata refund of the original purchase price. The pro rata refund is based on the percentage of unexpired Plan Term from the Plan’s date of purchase, less (a) a cancellation fee of twenty-five ($25) dollars or ten percent (10%) of the pro-rata amount, whichever is less, and (b) the value of any benefits provided to you under the Plan.

Section 8 ----> https://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/applecareplus/docs/applecareplusnaen.html

It's cool if they waive that fee though..

Definitely not 6 months, Its 30 days. I had an iMac with AC and I was 3 months into it when I got a replacement iMac and wanted to transfer it over. Only thing they would do is a prorated refund -10% and then I had to purchase the new one.

The fee comes out of the refund. Its Automatic. If you do the math, you will notice 10% missing. Any time its over 30 days and they do a refund/adjustment on AC, its docked 10%.

In Australia it’s 6 months I think. Maybe not the case in USA.
