Does Chrome produce inaccurate colours on iMac 27" with WCG P3 5K display?

I posted this elsewhere but thought it might be interesting to post here.

I was comparing Chrome 61 (720p) to Safari 10.1 (1080p) on my 2017 iMac 27" i5 7600 and noticed the colours (to my eye) to be off in Chrome. Things often looked washed out, and it seems to be in multiple different shows. I'm using the default macOS colour calibration in macOS 10.12.6 Sierra.

Is Chrome doing it wrong?

I know in the past Chrome did not support color management while Safari added support for it some time ago. With Safari, if you are viewing an image that has an imbedded color profile wider/different than the monitor you are viewing it in can display (eg viewing an AdobeRGB image on an sRGB monitor), Safari will natively convert the image to the gamut of your monitor. Chrome would not do this, leading to washed out colors like the ones you are seeing. I am not sure if this is still true with Chrome (I almost never use it), but I’d guess that’s what’s happening here.

OK, that makes sense. It seems Chrome still just assumes you're watching on a standard sRGB monitor.

Chrome was still displaying in sRGB while Safari uses the native P3 color profile, and colors looked awfully oversaturated in Chrome. Although amazingly it seems that the problem has finally been fixed in the latest version of Chrome (only took 23 months to do). So make sure you have the latest update.
