Hi all, I have my iPhone on iOS 8 beta 4 connected to my WiFi and my *cough* Hackintosh *cough* running the Public beta of Yosemite lol . My question is, can I make calls and receive texts over ethernet, as my Hackintosh is not wireless.

All the best,

Ashley

A big component of Continuity is Bluetooth LE, not so much Wifi. So, your Hackintosh will need to have a Bluetooth LE module. And Yosemite will need to be fooled into a thinking it's a built-in Bluetooth module on a legitimate Mac, as apparently external USB modules don't cut it.

That's handoff, not continuity (which the SMS and phone relay features are part of).

I can't test it myself however as far as I'm aware it just requires your phone and mac to be on the same network, so it should work.

I'd be interested to know if you end up getting it working. I have a hackintosh as well that I wouldn't mind getting working as well.

My iMac is connected Ethernet only with WiFi disabled and I can make and receive calls from it just fine.
and by just fine I mean it works as well as it can at this point in the development.

Also I can attest that Bluetooth doesn't have anything to do with phone calls coming in to the computer or other iOS devices because I have been at work, my wife will call me and my iPad at home will start ringing, in fact every computer and iOS device I have across the house will play my ringtone when a call comes in so I've had to disable this on everything except my main desktop.

I managed to get it to work, however I cannot get my Mic to work with it, which is very annoying. If I call someone, or they call me though, I can answer it and hear them. :)
