I don't think I've used a widget in years. They were neat when they were first revealed, and then I stopped caring when Spotlight added the ability to look up things in the dictionary and to act as a calculator.

So I disabled the dashboard entirely.

Now that Apple is re-using the word "Widget" to refer to the new things in Notification Center, I'm wondering if they finally killed Dashboard as of Yosemite?

I still use it all the time, especially for the Notes/Stickies and the Calendar... would be sad if this disappears.

I use Widgets in Dashboard everyday. A click on the scroll-wheel of a Logitech mouse and it opens.

I am listing BBC Radio 2 using a Dashboard widget right now. It is quick to check currency rates, and do other conversations. I check the time in other countries (I have three clocks up), and use the calendar quite a bit.

There is plenty useful about Dashboard; I would not want to see it go.

It does.

However, it has not been redesigned. I expect it will either be redesigned, or completely removed in a further DP before Yosemite is officially released.

The new Notification Center has a clumsy interface, I wish they had redesigned Dashboard instead. :(
Now the two co-exist in an awkward manner.

I'll always be a fan of Dashboard, especially for iTunes Lyrics.

Personally I'm hoping that Apple might take the same Notification Center extensions idea and make it available for Dashboard widgets, so you can choose whether to pin widgets to Notification Center or Dashboard, plus extra capabilities for Dashboard widgets (bigger sizes etc.).

I mean, widgets were fun when they were introduced, but I've tired of their skeumorphism just like I did with various regular apps, but I still much prefer the Dashboard mechanism of simply overlaying my current working screen with a bunch of handy widgets I've chosen, I just think that moving them to a more consistent, Notification Center style GUI would make sense, as well as merging their development (so they're a lot easier to maintain). With Swift coming along there isn't much need for the Javascript/HTML style widget development, and I don't think it was every really so accessible that it made widgets all that easy to develop in practice anyway.

So yeah, while they probably won't do it for Yosemite, I'm hoping they'll use this new idea of extensions to resurrect widget development, as Dashboard is a better place for many of them, particularly if you want to display a lot of information.
