Hi. I have used imessage on my mac very sporadically. I am not logged in to icloud. About dozen of my messages last year are on my mac. I want to delete them, but am checking here first so I don't also delete them on my phone also. Does anyone know this? Thanks

It's supposed to delete it on all devices, but in my experience rarely works that way.

it never deletes for me on all my devices. i have to delete the same conversations separately on my phone, watch and mac.

Thanks for the reply. I deleted all messages on the mac and it appears that my iphone still has retained them. So I guess it only deletes locally.

I don't use icloud for anything apart from "Find my iphone". Is that relevant do you think?
If I were to turn on icloud, would the messages i deleted on my mac get deleted from my iphone as well then?

Messages are synced only if you enable "Messages in iCloud". If you don't, each device has got its own message history and deleting on one device won't remove it on another.

good point. i don't have messages in icloud enabled so it seems counterintuitive that the messages appears on all my devices at once, but i have to delete it every single messages thread on every idevice.
