Does disabling data roaming also disable visual voicemail?

I have a 3g iPhone with AT&T and am going to be traveling overseas (England/Italy). I understand voice will be $1.29/min roaming with no long distance charges, $.50 per sent text message and the regular $.20 per received, and $.0195/kb for data.

I obviously plan to turn off data roaming which I assume means I will receive no data charges - i.e. I could click on my mail or stocks icon and it simply wouldn't work/download data. If wi-fi is available overseas I could connect to that for free and then access email/internet free.

However, I heard that the other hidden charge overseas is Visual Voicemail since it "downloads" the voicemails as data. If I turn off data roaming will that disable Visual Voicemail operability and data charges for it? Then I'd just need to check voicemail by pressing 1 like a normal phone. Or does disabling data roaming not disable Visual Voicemail and I could be charged data if someone leaves me a voicemail?

And if I'd be charged data and I receive a couple voicemails maybe a minute or two in length, any guess to how many KB that might be about? If it is like 100kb that would only be about $2 so not a biggie. Just don't want a $10k phone bill surprise!

Disabling roaming will disable anything you will be charged for while overseas., except visual voicemail. It's on the iPhone Wish List.

Thanks. Since it seems the only way is to call and have them disable VM and inevitably screw up my acct which I don't want to do, how much do you think receiving 2-3 1min or so VMs would cost? If it's just ~$2-5 I won't worry about it.
