Does display port carry audio as well?

Sorry for not doing a detailed search prior to this post. However, I wanted to know if anyone knew whether or not the display port on the new MacBook(s) was capable of carrying the audio signal as well?

Yes it can carry audio.

Let me rephrase:

Do you think the new MacBook(s) display port will also have audio out as well?

Well i assume that it does carry audio out because the new cinema display has built in speakers, but no mention of an audio input so it must supply the audio as well.

I thought about that, but since the new Cinema Display also has USB connection, my first thought is that the audio goes through USB but I guess both are possible.

This apple page seems to indicate it is the usb that carries the audio.

On the back of the display, you’ll find three self-powered USB ports. You enable them — along with the built-in iSight camera, microphone, and speakers — the moment you plug the USB connector into your new MacBook.
