I recently upgraded to El Capitan and noticed that my emails are now being sent from a xxxxxx@me.com suffix. This is frustrating as I've been using a xxxxx@mac.com address for years. Friends are now asking why I changed my email which I didn't knowingly do. When I go to the preferences in the mail application I am not able to change my email alias back to the mac.com suffix. In fact the program won't even let me get out of the edit alias dialog box when I try to make a change and I'm forced to quit the program. I tried changing this though the iCloud web platform, which does still allow me the mac.com option but that doesn't seem to help from my desktop based application. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I still have all 3 (me.com/mac.com/icloud.com) in my Mail application after upgrading, so El Capitan mail does at least support them if they're already there. Attempting to edit the aliases takes me over to Safari and iCloud settings, but all 3 of my addresses already show there too.

You might need to choose your default, out of the me, mac, and iCloud....

Bizarrely, this error only occurs on my Macbook Pro (retina 2013). I don't seem to have this problem on my iMac. To more narrowly describe the problem, I've found that when opening the edit alias dialog box, on my iMac it opens a settings dialog via the web based iCloud settings. When I try the same on my MacBook it opens a dialog box where I can add, edit or change alias but for whatever reason I can't save out of this dialog. I literally have to quit the program and open it again (note not "force quit"). Very weird.

I had that problem with Mavericks, I just deleted my email account from the settings, then re-entered them. A little bit of hassle, but solved a big headache.

Having the exact same issue and using the exact same MacBook Pro. Same "does nothing but can still use it" problems while trying to update/change email or alias as well.

I've reported it via Apple Feedback.

Any attempt I make to delete the account takes me to my iCloud / Internet Accounts preference pane, and I'm not willing to go to that particular extreme to fix this.

I'm seeing this complaint on a number of other sites (including Apple's own Support Communities) but this is the first time I've noted that it may be tied to a specific model Mac.

FWIW, no problems sending from my @ Mac account on my iPad or iPhone (both on the latest iOS version) nor via iCloud online (via Safari). Only on my MacBook Pro (MacBookPro11,3).

I have spoken to Apple about this since Day 1 of El Cap - no solution yet. Any attempts to change the alias results in Mail freezing. If I get an answer from them today (They are supposed to call me today) I will post here.

Try logging in and out of iCloud. That fixed this annoying issue for me

I'd had that suggested to me by a few others, but I was leery of trying it, but finally did. Happy to report this fixed the issue for me as well. I can now send from @Mac again.

Ok I will try it. When it asks if you want to delete things from your Mac - contact, etc.... you say yes right? Or does it then double that you have when you sign back in?

I don't want to say try it, specifically because of all that. It's a scary proposition, unless you've been faithfully using iCloud for a while. All I had to do was log back in and it pulled back all my contacts, calendar appointments, etc. -- but it was all those dialogs ("this will delete all of this and that from your Mac") that scared the crap out of me.

Everything seems fine, though, and I'm sending from my @ Mac account again.

To add, though; looking at iCal and Contacts, I'm not seeing any duplication at all.

Well - I just did it - and it worked....! Thank you for that tip... that's more than Apple Support has done!
