Hi, if given a choice, is it better not to allow remote access from even other computers within the same home network?

Typically, the less that you can have "open", the better. However, if all systems are patched and updated to the latest version of iOS/macOS, it shouldn't be an issue. Also, since you are simply accessing the machines on your local network internally, you should be good.

Make sure that your router has good security settings enabled as well.

Yes, the more openings the more security risks. How to make sure that my router has good security settings enabled?

Is Luna Display more secure than remote desktop apps such as Jump Desktop?
