i use my labtop a lot to watch movies so do you guys think if i hooked my air up through hdmi it would save battery since i could turn off the actuall labtop display

Yes, sending sound and video out through your TV will boost your battery life by a substantial amount. Although if your going to be hooking up your macbook air anyway... why not plug in another cable to charge?

Just plug it in if you're watching movies. There's no need to run on battery, if you're having to plug in a display. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

by dock it do u mean charge? sorry this is going to be my first mac i dont even have it yet.

And ya you guys are right about charging it i was just curious incase i didnt have the charger by. thanks

Docking it means it's no longer a portable unit. If you're connecting an external display, your only as portable as the cable allows you to be. In that sense, you might as well connect the power cord.
