Does Hotmail support push?

Ive hot my hotmail account working in the default mail app.

Its great and ive got it set to fetch every hour

I wouldnt mind using the push feature, as I dont get a lot of emails and think it would probably help my battery, not by much, but a little.

Anyhow, as far as I can tell, hotmail doesnt support push at the moment.

Ive researched and searched this forum and cant quite seem to find an answer.

Does anybody know if hotmail will support push in the future?
Or does it support push now and ive overlooked something?

Good Lord, people use hotmail/live still? :p

Go Gmail (yahoo made a deal with the devil :mad:) they have ActiveSync (yes I know who makes that) which is basically push.

I love how Hotmail/Live doesn't have forwarding to 3rd party addresses.

Could you tell me the benifits of Gmail over hotmail?

I mean specifically for use with the Iphone? :)

One thing that does annoy me with hotmail is if I read a message on my phone, it remains 'unread' on the web browser version....

There is one benefit. You can set up gmail as imap so you don't get the "I read it here but over there it is still marked as unread" problem.
 
I'm not trying to sell you anything but if you get an app you will have your problem solved.

Mail notifier (the app) will give you a push notification like a text, so you can turn off push and fetch email accounts and save your battery.
 
That App looks ok

Does it sync my read messages with the web browser version.

Im not sure if I like the idea of having one app tell me ive got a new email, and then using another to read it?

Maybe I dont fully understand exactly :eek:

The way it looks to me is once you set it up and activate your hotmail account you never have to mess with it. So you really only deal with the mail app. I also don't think it does any syncing, all it does is let you know you received an email.

Think ill just stick to fetching every hour... as I say, I dont get too many emails, mainly just booking references etc

Works fine for what I want I guess :)
 
i've had the same Hotmail account for 10+years but got a gmail 4ish years ago...

gmail is so much more flexible and the stuff you can do "inside" gmail on the computer and on the iPhone is just a huge plus..... i've kept my hotmail and check it daily, but certainly don't need it......

That's pretty much your main reason right there.

GMail IMAP will take care of that, even if you just use fetch instead of push.

Mail Notifier is great now if you have AOL, Gmail, or Windows Live (Hotmail) email accounts.

The next version, Mail Notifier 2.0 has a sneak peak that shows some new features. The biggest as far as I am concerned is the ability to get push notifications on any IMAP or POP account. That's just plain huge. And the silence period is pretty cool too!

I have both Hotmail and Gmail and use both for different things. When I read my hotmail on my computer using the windows Live app (which I like better than gmail webmail since the Live app is just like Outlook), I have to manually go through and delete emails on my phone. Pain in the rear. However, when I delete emails on my phone, they don't show up when I read my mail on my computer----at least it works one way. Also, you cannot save messages to folders through hotmail on your iPhone so I have to login occasionally on my laptop and move messages around. Gmail solves both of these issues.

I still end up with a bunch of messages in my inboxes that have links to pages with flash or wmv attachments that I can't view on my phone. Love that.
 
Actually hotmail does, but in a weird way.

It pushes you toward yahoo and gmail.

Until I completely switch to gmail, I had my gmail check my hotmail every hour, and add those emails to gmail's inbox. It saves time, and is easier

I can relate to this. I had a Hotmail account for at least ten years and switched to Gmail last year, it's just infinite times better in every way.

Sometimes I get to the point where I want to "hate apple", but then i remember microsoft and hotmail.

Gmail and google sync gets my vote. I did it last week, and it works like a charm, especially if you want to share calendar with family, etc

Push or fetch will kill your battery. I disabled mine and it still works well.
