Does iCloud (Photostream) sync over 3G?

Does iCloud download/upload Photostream pictures over 3G or does it only sync when it's connected via wifi?

I know this is old, but I don't think its true... I got huge data hits/overage when I was out of town and using photo stream.. I'm looking to block it automatically so it only works on wifi (my search for that led me here)
