Does iMac's screen have accurate colors for photo/video editing?

Does iMac's screen (27") have accurate and reliable colors and other settings (contrast, brightness, gamma etc.) for photo/video editing?

Nothing like those expensive displays that have presets for sRGB or Adobe RGB, but if you know a photographer who has one, or is willing to spend some extra money on one, people have reported success even on these new LED-enhanced displays by using ColorMunki to profile the screen and printer for matching color profiles. There are other calibrators that may work too, just ensure that they support LED backlit LCD:s.

Some have also used the Shades freeware to control the display brightness a bit more, but I'm not sure how necessary this is.

They use IPS panels, so I would imagine that if you invested in a screen calibrator, you could get a pretty decent color profile setup without too much difficulty.

Apple's monitors seem relatively cheap

The newest Apple's monitors seem cheap actually. I am not comparing them to Eizo or even Nec, but... for example Dell's equivalents were always cheaper than Apples. Now, the 27" Dell has the same price as Apple's model. As I know Dell is LCD, not LED. Just weird a little bit. May lower price tags mean lower quality?
