Has anyone actually tried InDesign CS6 in High Sierra? That specific version is not listed in the Works/Does Not Work listing. It is working perfectly in Sierra, and is something I cannot do without after forking out so much money to purchase it.

Not much help as I cannot confirm but:

  • Adobe CS6 Suite (with legacy Java installed first)
From this I would assume that it should work.
I get a weird minor bug in Photoshop CS6 where if I load say a PNG file and resave as JPEG, the save will work fine but the default file suffix will stay as PNG. I have to remember change the suffix manually before the save. Not a huge deal but still annoying.

Dunno if there are any problems in InDesign but considering it isn’t officially supported either in High Sierra, don’t be surprised if you come across a few weird bugs like this. Hopefully that’s the worst you’d find.

Thanks again!

you'd only need legacy java (and there are workarounds posted on this forum) for illustrator & dreamweaver, ie NOT for indesign. am still using dreamweaver cs6, and running fine here.

Yeah, no legacy Java needed for Photoshop CS6 either, thank the gawds. It was needed for CS4, but that doesn't work properly in High Sierra anyway. CS4 is effectively unusable.

I'm just glad for my light needs I can stick with my CS6. No need for a subscription. I'll deal with the weird annoying bug.

InDesign does run in High Sierra, I created a simple document with it the other day. My needs are very much light weight so I do not know if that helps you at all.

Have you tried looking in the Adobe Forums ?

Here is the result of a search I performed in the InDesign Forum for “High Sierra”:

https://forums.adobe.com/search.jspa?q=High+Sierra&place=/places/1383625&depth=ALL

People are having some issues, but, will they stop you doing your work or are they just annoyances.

Heh. I was looking through some of the search results and it seems even InDesign CC2017 isn't always working right in High Sierra. A common issue with CC2017 is the cursor pointer disappears into a square of garbled pixels.

However, the difference is the problems with CC2017 will get corrected. The ones with CS6 won't. It seems some have good results with InDesign CS6 in High Sierra but some have some issues.

Thanks, Priss. Glad to hear you are able to run InDesign CS6 in High Sierra. My main project is a two-sided, menu-style music list for my choir that I must update every few months. If I'm able to do that, all will be okay.

I read somewhere this morning that High Sierra is the last OS expected to run 32-bit apps. CS6 is 32-bit.

CS6 is, and has always been, 64bit only...

Hi Guys,

I am not trying to be a smart ass here, just factual. I thought initially that I agreed with what @fisherking said about CS6 being 64-bit, but also remembered seeing otherwise when I was looking at different apps. in High Sierra the other day. Anyway, I just opened them all up on my system and this is what they reported in Activity Monitor.

Acrobat Pro 32-bit
Bridge 64-bit
Dreamweaver 32-bit
Extension Manag 32-bit
Fireworks 32-bit
Flash 32-bit
Illustrator 64-bit
InDesign 32-bit
Media Encoder 64-bit
Photoshop 64-bit

As @tmbrown indicated High Sierra will be the last macOS to support 32-bit apps. So that means we will be losing several apps in the next iteration of the operating system (reported to be macOS XI). Although the remaining apps. may not even run by that point.

do command-I ('get info') on the app. 64bit app that you're running in 32 bit? (in which case, same thing for the others running 32bit)...

EDiT:
or i have it wrong? lol. dreamweaver is NOT running on my mac as a 64bit app (which, btw, surprises the hell out of me). so... ignore my 'expertise'...

Version: 12.0.0.5808
Obtained from: Identified Developer
Last Modified: 9/9/16, 2:54 AM
Kind: Intel
64-Bit (Intel): No

EDIT 2: seems only photoshop is 64bit, so... damn. means that dreamweaver etc are on their last legs... so it goes.

CS 6 crashes & the toolbars do not work correctly. The spinning ball results from almost all mouse clicks. It's horrid. I'm going to try to revert to Sierra. I have a 2015 macbookpro with 16GB memory don't know what's the problem.

I have not had any problems with CS6 InDesign, the only CS6 app I purchased. Hope you are able to solve your problems, Martha.

Okay. I am a total idiot. I am "sort of" retired, and when I stopped working I was using InDesign CS4. It has been working perfectly all the way up to yesterday morning using Sierra. I upgraded to High Sierra and it no longer works. My problem is that the folks I worked for for 18 years come back to me every so often to update the publications I did for them. At the moment I am updating a 200 page book. It is, in fact, off at the proofreaders. Once it comes back to me I need to make whatever changes they ask for and then update the index. I obviously can't do a blasted thing now and am in total panic mode. I called Adobe last night and the wonderful (ha) guy there suggested I downloaded CS6. He said I should be able to download and pay for it as an upgrade and it might work since it's something like the last version before the subscription. I couldn't download it, though. I got an error that said I needed to download Adobe Support Supervisor, which is no longer available. Anybody have any solutions? I finally broke down and started to cry.

[doublepost=1511672416][/doublepost]Hi Georgie,
Had same problem when update to sierra .. my CS 4 indesign wouldn't work .. not happy!!.
I too have been working on a book for a couple of years, with over 500 pages! Haven't time to wait for a "fix" , if it ever comes . Found this lovely website ... bought CS6, downloaded it, followed instructions and it all works fine. You will need to upgrade all pages .. but .. hey ... at least it works!!! Will cost you $110 US.
See link: https://securedgen.com/

and will I be updating to the next "Must have" system upgrade ... No Way!!
Good luck.

[doublepost=1513603998][/doublepost]Oh dear, I do sympathise. Hope you've found the fix. I did this on a test machine. You have to download the Sierra installer from Apple, erase the h/d then reinstall Sierra (can't install it over High Sierra, so make sure you back up first!), then you can get back to as it was before and CS4 works ok with legacy Java. The Sierra installer disappeared for a bit but is back now: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT208202 Good luck
