Its a deal breaker. I like to control my volume and screen brightness with them

My biggest gripe will be for when I'm using Excel. In fact, the lack of the function keys on the magic keyboard is probably the only reason I'll be keeping my MBP. Hopefully there will be a workaround through on-screen function keys.

I also saw a YouTube video showing it will be possible to create some macros on the keyboard, so that's a potential solution too.

Well, couldn't you use any other keyboard something like the Bryce or Logitech keyboard/cover?

Nope. I have both the Brydge and Keyboard Folio for my 12.9 (2018) and find I don’t miss them when I’m using the KF or really use them on my Brydge. The Control Center works perfectly fine for the controls that I’d probably use from the function row.

Now if I was regularly using them for mapped shortcuts, yeah, I’d probably stick with the Brydge.

Absolutely, I could. But I really like the design of the new keyboard and the additional USB-C port. I won't order the new iPad until the keyboard is available anyway, so plenty of time to decide.

I really don’t understand apples oversight with this. I wonder if they are really saving it for just a second gen release...

That may be some leftover mentality from the Steve Jobs times - just guessing here of course. He was on record to dislike any function keys - read that in some biography years ago.

I mean it can’t be blindness so it seems to be a decision made actively in the design process. Unfortunately by someone who doesn’t spend that much time with the device in the real world.
