I saw in a few threads that people say wiping an iPhone and reinstalling everything helps with older iPhones.

Does it really work?

I don't want to go through the trouble of wiping my phone and all the work to set it up again to still have the same jerky response and battery drain.

It did help with my 5S. When I updated from 10.2 to 11.1 I was getting ridiculous battery drain. After restoring with iTunes and setting up as new, battery is back to normal like it was on 10.2. Less glitchy too. That said iOS 11 is nowhere as snappy as iOS 10.

Maybe, maybe not. It”s the only option you got other than living with it. Never did anything for me though.

Uh, if you have an iPhone 6 with the original battery, your battery is most likely your issue.

No it doesn't. I have done it at least a dozen times and it's still garbage. And those saying the battery is the issue, probably don't own a 6. On IOS 10 the battery would last all day without having to charge it! Now I have to charge my phone on at least 3 or 4 times a day because piece of **** apple delivered a half ass IOS. **** apple.

Until they dedicate and put iOS in its own partition, yes.
Patching vs clean install, is a nightmare.
ALL your apps should be reinstalled fresh.
Just because you have 32GB storage, I’d keep 10GB, not just minimum, free.

Jumping to 11 means converting to Apple file system too.
11 has been in the news, battery issues are that bad.

Try to wait. 11.2 (beta) seems fine 99.99%.
Planning to buy iPhone 10, doesn’t always happen but 11.2 or later seem to be eve;more important than usual.

Early adopters this year are on the bleeding edge and some got burn notice it seems.

You’ll know after factory reset and setup as new if your phone is okay. Restoring in this case would be asking for trouble.

Thanks for all the replies, seems like it is a mixed bag and at best it will be better than it was (but not as good as iOS 10).

I did my iPad Air (first Air) last night, and it does seem better. Although my iPad was not affected as badly as my iPhone in the first place.

The battery on my iPhone 6 has been fine before the upgrade to iOS 11.

I think I will give it a try on my iPhone 6 this weekend as it definitely has reduced the usability of it considerably with iOS 11. I really wish Apple didn't release and especially push it to people before it was ready, or just made it available for devices it works on well till it was ready for older devices. Really hope they learn from this, as this is strike 2 for Apple on my end (Yosemite on OSX was poor compared to other releases and now iOS 11).

On my 6 plus I install major updates as new, and minor over the air.
IOS 11 worked fine for two days and started acting up.
IOS 11.1 was over the air and runs smooth and fast. Battery is better also. Original battery purchased Oct 2014
On IOS 11.1.2 now. Runs good so far.

I did a fresh iOS 11 install using the DFU install method and it's working great...no real issues. :)

It hasn't worked on mine and several other people I know with 6's and 6S. So I stick by with what I said.
I have a 6s, worked for me.

You do know batteries can fail..right? They can fail in the time frame of a week if its in the process of becoming unstable.

Well I wiped my iPhone6 and restored. It definitely seems much more responsive (especially Messages when trying to send a picture from Photos), but not as smooth as it was with iOS 10. Will see how it goes for a few days.

My iPad Air 1 also seemed much more responsive after doing this, but also not as smooth as iOS10.

Will have to give it a few days to see how the battery does.

Please post more info.
Do you feel apps are faster? And is battery better?

I wasn’t having any big issues with my 6S but, I’ve always updated OTA since new and have never wiped completely and started from scratch so I figured I give it a shot. I have to say, I thought my phone was fine before, now it’s performing better. The battery is what I noticed the most, usage is back to normal. It’s only been a couple charges so I need to let it go for a bit to see if it’s just a coincidence.

After the wipe apps do load faster and are more responsive. However there is some inconsistency, where sometimes it works fine, but other times it is slow and laggy (takes long time to load and also is unresponsive to input from keys, etc). However for the most part it is almost as good as it was in iOS10, however the screen seems jittery when apps load or switching between them. Overall not the smooth experience that I have become used to from iPhones since the iPhone 1 I owned.

Battery life seems marginal better, but not much of an improvement. I went through all the apps to turn off location services only when using the app, which helped, but overall it is huge downgrade from iOS 10 and earlier.

That is exactly the reason I did a fresh install on my 6s. I was quite surprised at the difference it made, as you were too.
