I ask this because I tried with the instructions in the stickied post above and failed. I'm pretty sure I did everything I was told, but it was kind of confusing since I was wanting to unlock it and jailbreak it to sell it. I thought I selected the right answers, but when I got to the iTunes recovery and selected my ipsw file, it told me "no dice!"

I'm worried about bricking this thing since there are quite a few ways to go wrong. I selected 2.2.1 for my original iPhone, downloaded the bl46.bin file. I just have no idea what I did wrong. Anybody got any clues?

Bricking is relatively impossible to do now, all you would have to do is restore it to stock firmware. It doesn't take a genius to do - sometimes the unlock doesn't always work because of certain errors. Just have to keep at it.

What particular error did you get?

I'm not sure since it was a good 12 hours ago. I think I'm going to wait until I get my 3G S working unless that would make it impossible for me to check the unlock/jailbreak status of my 2G. Will that be a problem? I'm a legit iPhone user, as Pwnage asks, so I don't know how I would know that it is unlocked or not.

Okay, if you have iTunes 8.2, that'll mess up EVERYTHING. You can't do the DFU mode needed to unlock for the first time.. I've unlocked MANY iPhones. It can be tricky sometimes, but anyone can do it, you just might need some pointers. :) Here's how to downgrade to 8.1: (unconfirmed. I just googled it, but it should help.)

EDIT: Also, if you say you're a legit user, it'll jailbreak but NOT unlock. You need to hit no there for it to unlock.

You don't have to get rid of iTunes 8.2, because the new PwnageTool and QuickPWN will work with 8.2, they are being released today.

Ben, given the title of the thread, I think the OP will be helped by having a detailed tutorial to follow, hence the link to the iClarified page. That still links to the last versions of the software, which do exactly what he needs to do.

So imho he'd be best to get rid of 8.2, ignore today's releases, and follow the tutorial. Then he'll have an unlocked 2G, and can sell it as such, which is what he wants to do.
