Back in the 1G Shuffle days, you could enable an option that makes ever song that is synced to it be kicked down to 128kbps AAC before syncing. This way, you could keep the full quality songs on your computer, and still have it on your iPod, albeit in a slightly lower quality. PLEASE, tell me this is a feature iTunes presents for the iPhone...

Come on guys...it's a pretty simple question for anyone with an iPhone...

Every other iTunes mobile phone I've seen has that option, but I didn't notice anything in the iPhone settings. Probably because it's 4gb or 8gb, not 512MB like the other devices. They probably figure there's no need with that amount of space.

Right, wrong, or indifferent, the Shuffle is, to date, the only device Apple has ever enabled this iTunes feature for (unless it was also enabled for the Motorola phones with iTunes on them?).

It *is* an oft-requested one, especially for the small minority who keep lossless files on their computer (even if they have a full-size 60 or 80GB iPod, they may well want to be able to re-encode on the fly for their iPod).

Doesn't seem that Apple has shown interest in allowing the feature to be enabled for anything else, though....

Then perhaps we should all let them know...

Thanks for the link! I posted this to them:

"While using my 1st Generation iPod Shuffle in iTunes, I get the option to "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC". I cannot fully express how useful and thoughtful of a feature this is as I have a music library of over 30GB, most of which is very high quality music. Being given the option to use my Macs power to kick down the bit rate upon iPod shuffle sync is a feature I would like expanded to other non hard drive based iPods, ESPECIALLY the iPhone. This way, I could listen to more songs on my 8GB iPhone at a bitrate that still sounds good to my ears. I would truly appreciate this feature addition in a future version of iTunes as some people even like to keep lossless music files on their computers, but would settle with on the fly re-encoding just to be able to fit as much as possible on their iPods/iPhones. Thank you!"

Please, please, please!!!! Other people, please do the same! They would not set up an open feedback sheet like that if they didn't read and pay attention to the features that the most users request! Please request using that form! Thx.
