Does iTunes still require a credit card or iTunes card to create a new account?

Just curious. It's been a long time since I created my account, and I remember having to use an iTunes Card.

I created a UK account last year and there's 10 GBPs store credit still there. I did it to get a free app so I assume I must have had to buy the card in order to create the account.

I seemed to have to use one, but supposedly you can get past that screen and not use a card.

No, just try to "buy" any free app first, then create new account. There will be "none" option for payments.
