I have a 64 gig iPhone and I'm thinking about jailbreaking it before I sell it. Is this a mistake? I've already restored it to 8.1.1 so it's no longer jailbroken but I'm thinking about downgrading to 8.1 so I can jailbreak. Any thoughts?

I'd leave it as stock to sell it, that's just me though. I really doubt you'd get more money for having it jailbroken.

Depends on who's buying it. To maximize your chance for success, I would downgrade to 8.1 and leave it there in stock unjailbroken form until you know what your buyer wants. Advertise it as such, and note that you could jailbreak it if the buyer wishes.

Not a bad idea to leave it at 8.1.1 and offer to jailbreak. There are some downsides, however. A buyer asks you to jailbreak it and you do. The deal falls through. You want to restore it to 8.1.1 but Apple stopped signing it. You're now left keeping it jailbroken or upgrading to 8.1.2. Also, what if you jailbreak it and it goes awry but the glitches aren't noticed until after the sale. The buyer might pester you to fix it.

I have sold 6+ IPhones on Craigslist and having one jailbroken or offering to jailbreak it seemed to have no value whatsoever (or increase people's interest).

I had a similar feeling when I recently sold my iPad 3 whether to keep it jailbroken or not, in the end I restored it stock on iOS 8.1.1 as I felt as a buyer I would want things as close to factory condition... imo if I felt the device software was tinkered with it would lessen the value in my mind.

This way the person who bought my iPad will have an almost new user experience when it comes to set up:D

On the other hand, it depends who you are selling to.

This being the last JB possibly for a while, yes it carries a premium if the buyer can trust that you havent harmed the device. Keep it on 8.1 & find a way to prove reliability, probably meaning dont root, and you will get better offers guaranteed.

agreed downgrade back to ios 8.1 now and leave it stock
The buyer can ALWAYS upgrade if they wish, downgrading is not always possible. That leave the door open for them special buyers that understand the possibilities being jailbroken
And yes once the door closes for downgrading, values tend to go up if jailbreakable imo

Gotta agree with everyone. I don't think JB'ing is what provides the value. Being on a JBable ios is. It's the easiest way and gives them the choice to do what they want.

Of course if we hit an iOS that "can't" be broken, then it's a huge difference (ie AppleTV)

Gets tricky tho if you want to jailbreak while you still have the device, since the itunes restore is the only reliable way (for sale) to cleanup after ur done. There is something called SemiRestore, which can bring you back to clean 'Hello' screen while keeping the jailbreak, but its risky & considered a last option type of thing. But hey if you want to explore these give it a shot & if SemiRestore (or guess I-Rat is another option) does work then you'll have more choices until you want to sell- particularly if you would like to jb in the meantime.

Heads up tho if something goes wrong (which can happen with any non-itunes restore) then you'll need to default back & restore 8.1 thru itunes & the window on that closes soon. Bottom line- now is the time to explore if you like. All the best
