Hi!

I have the new 16 inch m1 pro. wanted to buy a keyboard cover, but as I´ve heard before, that will damage the screen. Is this still a thing?

Probably. The tolerances are very slim.

That said, I am using a keyboard cover when I am using the keyboard. I take it off when I close the laptop and travel with it. I do this for two reasons:

1. The black anodized metal well surrounding the keys seems to be wearing on my 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max. I have shiny looking "spots" underneath several of the keys. I don't know how these developed, as other than typing, I've never touched the keyboard with anything but my finger tips.

2. I don't want finger print oil getting on my screen when I've close the computer for travel or storage.

that's actually good ide, to just take it off before closing the laptop, but what about the heat?

Hahah my main problem is I'm hairy, and sometime I find hairline on the keyboard, and I'm afraid it will get underneath the keys.

Shouldn't be a problem with the heat. These things don't get too hot unless you're really pushing them - ie: huge image files in Photoshop or during video editing.

I don’t have the newer 14/16 models, but I’ve been using a keyboard cover on my M1 13” MBP for close to a year(when I bought it) and I haven’t had any issues. Then again I do have a matte screen protector on the display and the M1 runs cooler compared to the M1 Pro/Max.

I don’t know if they’ve adjusted the space between the keyboard and display when closed on the older models compared to the new design.
