does .mac have MySQL and php?

Hi all,
my mom is a journalist and the newspaper she writes for is encouraging columnists and feature writers to get blogs. anyway, most people use typepad, but I convinced her to use iWeb once I gave her the old mac mini. anyway, I think our design is pretty cool, but that's off topic. we both thought some interactive aspects could be good, and I suggested a forum. I just downloaded phpBB and uploaded it to her iDisk. do we need to somehow install MySQL and php, or are these already part of .mac?

Sorry to break it to ya but things like MySQL and php aren't part of the .Mac service even though the server software that it runs on is capable. It's this apart from the lack of proper domain support that makes .Mac less than ideal for running professional sites.

Considering what the above poster said.. just spring for some cheap webspace and point a domain there.

yeah, that stinks. my mom and I estimate that not many more than 20 people would join her forum based on the amount of people (still mostly just people from the paper, and people who she's told about it herself) who read the blog daily. assuming there are around 10 new posts a day, that'll be almost 3650 posts a year. anyway, how much space would this take?

When it comes to the posting it depends on how media rich they are. Do you tend to make use of images and video in these posts or is this simple writen text?

Blogs don't really take up that much space, its usually the uploaded content that does that.

I'm sure that a package with a couple of hundred megabytes would do ya but that's for you to decide at the end of the day.
