Does 5,1 Mac Pro still run Final Cut Pro well (say compared to recent MacBook Pro's or Mac Pro's? I know CPU difference is a lot but just curious on real usage for producers and such)?

Also if I purchase Final Cut Pro now, do I must force-upgrade my OS to Catalina (I'm currently on Sierra) to use the software? I might just want to upgrade to Mojave and stop it there for now so just curious if I can still use Final Cut Pro on Mojave when I purchase it now. Thanks.

You can presently run the latest Final Cut Pro on Mojave, and it generally works quite well on the cMP, especially if you install something like a Radeon RX 580 and enable hardware acceleration for H.264 and HEVC/H.265 encode and decode using Open Core (search for that thread elsewhere in this forum). Really depends on what type of footage you're going to be primarily working with, of course. It'll do quite well w/ H.264 1080p, even without the RX 580, but 4K you'll want that acceleration, since the CPUs do not have Intel Quick Sync.
