Hi folks,

I replaced the battery in my MacBook Air 2018 running Intel i5. I'm only getting 5-6h with that new battery, which is very disappointing. The guy in the service told me that it's normal for the Intel-based MacBooks to have such short battery life on macOS Monterey, since they apparently were, quote, optimized for Apple Silicon. Is that true? Can someone confirm what's their battery life on macOS Monterey with Intel MacBooks?

What was your battery life before it started deteriorating and was replaced? What were you expecting?

My battery life was 3-4h before I decided to replace it. If I knew it's gonna be 5-6h after the replacement, I'd skip it.

Well, they claim that it's an original battery. Can I check it somehow?
coconutBattery https://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/ will tell what there is to know about the battery - manufacturer, serial number, date made, capacity, etc.

True/false - depends on his exact words.

True that new Macs have longer life (hours per charge) than older Macs. New Macs have new improvements for batteries - both battery technology improvements and macOS optimisation.

False that existing macOS optimisations for older batteries have been removed.

Battery life (hours per charge) did not change with Monterey on my 2016 MacBook (and that is as old as Monterey supports). Obviously the battery condition has deteriorated since new - full charge now fluctuates around 86% of original value.
