Does Mail seem slower in Sierra?

Hello all,

Just another observation I've made with Sierra that I am looking to corroborate with others. Does the Mail app seem slower compared to El Capitan? For instance I use the 3 column pane view, and when selecting messages to view or switching between messages quickly there's a delay of 1-3 seconds before it renders in the preview pane. Maybe I'm crazy but I don't think that was there before. Granted I have 8 email accounts loaded up in Mail, but still I've never noticed this behaviour before.

Other actions are also generally slower e.g. checking mail, deleting mail, etc. This occurs on both my MBP and iMac that have been upgraded to Sierra.

Anyone else notice this too?

Perhaps your local network traffic is causing a small delay with IMAP?

I am seeing exactly the same sluggishness on my 2011 Mac Mini. 3 pane view as well.

Same sluggishness here using iCloud and Gmail accounts. Late 2012 Mac mini, 2.3 GHz i7, 16GB RAM and also my 13" rMBP (can't remember specs). Very annoying!

Same problem here. I thought it is maybe related to the MailHub plugin (currently in beta), but still haven’t tried it without plugin.

Do you have any Mail plugins installed?

IMAP scans are definitively slower, but on upside much more reliable (been having problems with my AtMail server ever since El Capitan). Incidentally, my wife complained over IMAP reliability to Apple Support two months ago, and was then asked to wait until the Sierra launch "as they had severe IMAP issues and they would all go away in Sierra" (she was quite taken back by the rather unbelievably frank reply) . My guess would be that they've made big changes to the IMAP backend.

Haven't really noticed any performance degradation (Mac Mini, 2012, 16GB RAM, SSD) - iCloud, Yahoo and Google IMAP all loading in preview pane (integrated inbox) sub-second from selecting in the second column.

One thing I noticed from mail in Sierra are notification not sync from my Microsoft account (e mail sync if I go back to my Mac after wake it from sleep) but my iCloud account sync as normal.

I always have to open the mail app to see if I have new emails from my Microsoft account. Never had this issue before Sierra.

Chiming in just to say mine has the same behavior since the update.

After removing several thousands of messages performance is back to pre-Sierra. Maybe still a tad slower, but acceptable.

I found mail app a bit slow in el cap and have been using thunderbird for my mail for some time now.

still flows well in sierra.

I do have an older 2009 macbook so this will factor in the slowness, even with SSD and 8GB ram the CPU is slower and older architecture.
