does microsoft outlook email work with the iphon4 4s

even though there is an option to access your hotmail account (live.com) account on my iPhone it does not seem to work. the iPhone verifies my account but I keep getting a password incorrect enter password screen

You are asking about Outlook then mention Hotmail. Those are two different things completely

I have outlook working on an exchange server. (for work) it actually works very well. Try setting it (outlook) as an exchange account.

Outlook is mail software for PC or Mac. Hotmail/Live is your email account. You will get very confused replies regarding Outlook that will probably not be very helpful in your situation (like the one about Exchange).

I have my Hotmail account working fine on my iPhone 4S. Did you set it up new or did you resync it over from a backup (if you had a previous iPhone)? I had one setup previously, but discovered that they made some improvements to Hotmail support somewhere along the line (I think iOS 4) and my initial setup must have been prior to that. Long story short, I couldn't delete email on my iPhone and have it delete it on the Hotmail server. But now they do support that, but I had to delete my account and add it as new to get that to work right.

For your situation, it sounds like you entered your password wrong. Also, make sure that the error message you're seeing is definitely referencing your Hotmail account (in case you have multiple email accounts on your phone, it's possible that you may be looking at your Hotmail account but the phone is trying to fetch email from a different account in the background and it's popping up with an error in regards to that other account).

He may be referring to the OWA (Outlook Web Access) component that is hosted at live.com in some cases.

MS has 2 separate email options, Hotmail and .live. Are you sure you are using the correct password for the correct account? I actually have both set up on my iPad. Both are set up as exchange and work perfectly.

If you have a .live account try logging in on you computer with your password. If that works go back to your phone. If you are using .live do not try to set up Hotmail because it won't work. You will have to set up .live as an Exchange. There is no selection for it on the Mail menu.
