Can someone confirm what I've read elsewhere, that the mid 2011 mini audio line-in doesn't work with a non-preamplified microphone?
I'm confused, because the spec for the mini at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4806 says:
"Analog audio line input is accepted through a 3.5mm mini phone jack. The sound input port accepts line-level stereo signals up to 24-bit stereo 44.1-192kHz sampling rate. It also accepts a stereo miniplug-to-RCA cable adapter for connecting stereo equipment to the computer."
That doesn't mention preamplification, and sounds very similar to the spec for the MacBook 13" aluminum, late 2008, from the user manual:
"Audio in/optical digital audio in port. Connect your MacBook to a line-level microphone or digital audio equipment."
The microphone with the Plantronics headset I bought works fine with my MacBook, and doesn't work with my mini. I'd like to be sure there's nothing wrong with the mini hardware, and that it's not a Lion (mini) vs. Snow Leopard (macbook) thing.
