Does Mountain Lion fix the black screen of death problem?

Just wondering if this particular problem has been fixed in Mountain Lion:

Does it makes the necessary update in firmware/software to fix the problem? My MacBook Pro is not covered by the warranty, so unless the problem is fixed in Mountain Lion I am very much stuck with it for good, since the cost of replacing the logic board very much amounts to buying a new MacBook Pro.

You're not covered by the 2 year repair extension from Apple? Have you checked with them on that? Only the earliest 2010 computers would fall outside of the 2 year window at this point.

You're guessing or you confirmed it twice?

Try them again anyway, they're known to go out outside the warranty every once in a while.

If AppleCare won't do it on the phone, try taking it to the store and see if they'll do it.

If not, then at least you've tried.

Note that, they did say this in the tech note that you linked: Apple will provide further extensions to this program as needed., so they're flexible about this.

Not guessing, I know it is over two years old. I took it to an authorized reseller here and he talked with Apple and he told me that they said the warranty had expired and that the solution was to buy/change the logic board, which would cost about $780 dollars, which isn't really worth it.

I may take it to a different store and try again, but doubt the response will be different.

Why would ML fix it? It's a defect in the hardware, nothing can fix it. You have to replace the logic board that has the defective GPU on it with a new logic board with a new fixed GPU on it.

Because it was messed up by installing Lion, probably due to the firmware update it does. Computer was working perfectly under Snow Leopard, never gave the problem. So perhaps Mountain Lion makes some kind of firmware update that fixes it.

I will install the Mountain Lion DP4 to see how it goes. If it doesn't fixes it then the only solution is to buy a new computer (since a new logic board is too expensive and not worth it). Really disappointed with Apple with this whole thing.

Except the tech note you linked mentioned the fixes in both Lion and/or Snow Leopard, which is to update to the latest version. This also suggest it has nothing to do with Lion, it was also a problem in Snow Leopard.

Firmwares are not related to the OS X versions, they're separate.

If no firmware updates are available now, then it's damaged for good and you'd have to replace the logic board. That's why Apple offered free repairs.
