Without looking at it, how can I tell.
Is it listed anywhere in the specs? System Profiler?

Thanks

Can you see your reflection in it clearly when its off? If so its glossy.

Trying to help a friend. And while I don't have access to her machine, I'd like to be able to tell her how to find out. Is the subjective "reflection" test the only way to tell?

If you go to Apple (bottom left corner) and input your serial number and it will say where or not the screen is glossy or matte. Although this is not always accurate, as it says mine is a glossy when it is really a matte. But that's the only way I can think of without seeing the MacBook Pro, as it will be obvious if you see it in person.

It's either glossy or it's not.

So long as your friend has functioning eyes it's pretty damn obvious.

I believe the OP is asking if there is any way to find out if a MBP has a glossy or matte screen, without taking it out of its packaging, or without opening the lid, i.e. without looking at the screen.

I would go on a limb and say that it should be listed on the configuration sticker. If not, give the Apple Support page a try- as mentioned by iBookG4user- and see if tells you anything.

Not on the sticker, and the site just says"MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2GHz)" and repeats the S/N.

Thanks for the help. I was trying to avoid a trip, but....

OP asks about if it's listed in System Profiler, which would indicate they or someone else has access to the system.

She has access. But was just wondering if there's someplace that has it written down (like S/N breakdown) in profiler or somewhere else.

Thanks
