I have navigon for iPhone. I have my iPhone connected to my car bluetooth system. If I'm using the Navigation and Im on a call the turn by turn voice speaks over the bluetooth but if I am off the phone call and even though the phone is still connected to the bluetooth device the navigon software will not speak over the bluetooth device. Am i missing something or is this a feature that is not available?

i don't think Navigon intended it to work over bluetooth, it just happens to interfere during a phone call ... i've had the same experience. i don't like it

Navigon works fine over Bluetooth but only if your Bluetooth system supports the A2DP stereo audio protocol and "most" in-car systems do not unfortunately. I previously had a visor mounted Motorola T505 and now a Jabra 700 handsfree visor unit (both of which support A2DP) and the Navigon voice commands come in loud and clear. Both of these units also have digital FM transmitters so they can redirect the sound to your car stereo over FM or the built in speaker. You can also play your tunes from the iPhone using A2DP as well and Navigon supports this with it's built in iPod function. Cheers!

I'm pretty sure it works over the Bluetooth, but then I almost always have music playing as well which I know works over Bluetooth, so it may be that the music is keeping the Bluetooth link active instead of the phone calls like you're referencing. That might be a partial solution to your problem- play music when not on a call. :p

As I mentioned previously, Navigon works fine over Bluetooth if A2DP is supported. The iPhone shuts off the GPS software though to answer a call which is a limitation of the iPhone, not the software. Currently the iPhone does not run multiple applications at the same time but this is now being rectified in the summer with the release of OS 4.0 for the 3GS in a couple of months. Finally we'll have multi-tasking to run concurrent applications! Whoooot!

thanks

Thanks James, this seems to be the answer. Appreciate the input

I hadn't thought about some bluetooth setups not running A2DP, that does make sense (and explains why I've never had a problem with it, since mine obviously does with streaming music to it... now they just need full AVRCP in 4.0 to finally catch up with my old WinMo smartphone ;) ).

It should be possible to use the GPS apps like Navigon even when on a phone call even without 4.0 (or a jailbroken phone with Backgrounder), you just have to start (or re-start) the app after the phone call is active.

That's correct. You can restart for sure with Navigon after you've initially answered the call but it's still a pain as the GPS goes away while you first answer the phone call. True multi-tasking in the upcoming 4.0 firmware for the 3GS will eliminate this hassle. (and the distraction!) Cheers!

Guys,

Try Bluetooth Mono for iPhone. It basically transforms the Navigon Stereo audio to Mono.

After a couple tries, I got it working! (my car speaker bluetooth system does NOT support A2DP)

Now I can be listening to my stereo and TomTom interrupts it when the lady has something to tell me
Came around looking for an answer - found it somewhere else and came back to post it for everyone else to know :)

PS:
Actually found another thread talking about this. For some reason I didn't find it when I needed it so anyway... Bluetooth Mono SBSettings Toggle:)- Listen to music through ANY Bluetooth Headset
