Does OWC invalidate Applecare?

Hey everyone. I'm thinking of getting a refurbed iMac soon and in order to save some money I'm also considering getting an aftermarket SSD. I don't need the whole 256gb SSD because I only want it as my boot drive for the improved speed and I'll be using my 1/2TB HDD as the main storage.

Does work that OWC does on the iMac invalidate Applecare and/or warranty? I've seen conflicting information that since they are Apple Certified it doesn't but I've also seen people who have contacted them about it and gotten vague answers.

Anyone sent their iMacs to OWC and then used Applecare? Your experiences?

Apple has no means to void your warranty if you didn't damage anything inside the iMac. Now obviously if they take a look and see you have someone else's SSD in your computer, they won't think twice about voiding your warranty, but an easy workaround to that is just replacing the SSD with stock hard drive whenever you take it in.

I also think OWC mentioned you get their own warranty.

Is that an "easy workaround"? I would call something like swapping back in Apple's own RAM for your own when sending in a machine "easy". Replacing the SSD for the stock HDD every time the machine needs servicing is a workaround, but not one I'd call easy. But that's just me.

Yes, for the SSD alone I'm sure. I highly doubt OWC is going to be picking up the expenses for a failed logic board when Apple denies service based on the customization.

I'd advise you to get a definitive answer directly from OWC on the matter.
