With all this custom firmware, this quickpwn, this unlocked, this jailbreak in my face, the question I want to know is do any of these methods (quickpwn or download custom firmware) also activate the iPhone?

I bought my iPhone on eBay and I had to activate, unlock, and jailbreak from ZiPhone.
I'm at 2.0.1 right now after using winpwn, and want to go to 2.1. Which method should I use, and does it also ACTIVATE the iPhone as well?

Thank you.

Yes, what Four20 said is true.

I used the Pwange Tool on my 2G iPhone just the other night. I followed the tutorial in iClarified (highly recommended) and everything worked great.

True that each is considered a separate process, but I did all together with the Pwnage Tool. If you uncheck the "Activate this Phone" box, it will not unlock it. You can also uncheck the third party installer apps Cydia and Installer if you do not want them.

I chose to run the whole gamut and do it all, jailbreak and unlock. I had never done this before and it really was as simple as can be. I just made sure to check the "Activate this Phone" box which then unlocked it so I could use it on another network. I also kept both Cydia and Installer check-marked to have third party installers on my phone.

I hope I haven't confused you here, but using the Pwnage Tool will allow you to do it all or be flexible and either only jailbreak or unlock (activate) your iPhone.

I forgot to mention I'm a Windows user, so Pwnage Tool is out of the question.
I'll take a gamble and go for it, but if anything goes wrong, you two will burn in my mind.

Pwnage Tool has been released for Windows now if you have updated to FW 2.1. Click my iClarfied link in my post above and you'll notice it at the top of the page. I'm glad to hear we'll always have a place in your mind!

brilliant! I love this thread! lots of new stuff I can try on my own! Hope I can do it right though..haha..

I used QuickPwn last night on my NOW Jailbroken phone. I have 2.1 and saw that QuickPwn can jailbreak that. So I pretty much connected it, and when it got to the point where it said "hold power button for ___ seconds" and it started counting down..I thought it was putting it in DFU mode FOR ME. but that wasn't the case. So next time I tried, I actually held down the power button/home/power when it actually told me to. And it worked! it was all in less than 5 minutes.

Just want to let you guys know that no one is going to burn in my mind.

Thank you everyone.
