When I get my mac I was going to purchase the apple care plan but I will also be doing a Do-it-yourself ram upgrade since apple ram is a rip off. Will this ram upgrade void my apple care warranty? I looked on apples site and found no answer.

Also many people have stated to not buy the apple care plan at purchase but to wait a year to get it. Is this the thing to do?

Upgrading the RAM does not void the warranty. Apple considers it to really be the only "do-it-yourself" upgrade on the iMac.

I've never bought AppleCare, so I can't comment on that part.

There's no reason to wait, but you MUST activate AppleCare before you reach the one-year point, else you won't be able to, ever. AppleCare extends the one-year warranty to three years, and it also gives phone support for three years (where the original warranty is only for 90 days phone support). So, if your intent is to get AppleCare, then I recommend you purchase & activate before 90 days.

if you go to apples support site you'll find How Tos on how to install ram. it does not good the warranty at all.

I always buy the AppleCare due to the fees that are charged if you have a repair and do not have it ie handling fees and service charges. so I always get the AppleCare

My understanding after talking with applecare is that ram is not user replaceable on the mini. I'd get with an apple authorized service provider and get them to install the ram if you want to avoid possibly voiding the warranty.

Yeah, I think its total BS, too, but I want the warranty.
