Does renaming iPhone/iPod touch in iOS 5 prompt iTunes to make a separate backup? I do not want to lose my old backup from iOS 4.3.3 (for my own reasons). I hope a new backup is made with the new name instead of the old name. Does iTunes work like that? Thanks!

I believe it's based on the devices "ID" and not the name. Renaming it would have no effect.

I always go into my drive/folder and make a copy of the backup folder so that it never gets overwritten or modified by iTunes.

So i can just paste the copied backup folder after it is overwritten into the original folder and restore from that backup? Have you done this before? Or does iTunes give cryptic error messages?
